Graphic Tribute To ‘Game Of Thrones’

Graphic Tribute To ‘Game Of Thrones’

“We read fantasy to find the colors again, I think. To taste strong spices and hear the songs the sirens sang. There is something old and true in fantasy that speaks to something deep within us, to the child who dreamt that one day he would hunt the forests of the night, and feast beneath the hollow hills, and find a love to last forever somewhere south of Oz and north of Shangri-La.”

– George R.R Martin

If you haven’t been living under a rock for the past 3 years, you surely know the hit TV series that succumbed the world into the fantasy genre. It’s called “Game of Thrones” and its author, George R.R. Martin managed to write such a beautiful and compelling story that makes you thirst for more with each chapter end.

This fantasy drama series created for HBO with the help of David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, is an adaptation of Martin’s book series “A Song of Ice and Fire”, and it tells several stories about the people of Westeros and Essos. Their lives, their petty fights, their astonishing magic,  how civil war is destroying the lands; how loyalty is cherished and how loyalty can bring your doom.

Crime and punishment, for those who cannot speak for themselves, or for those who spoke too much. “Game of Thrones”  is a critically acclaimed book and TV series, and it has quite a huge fandom. With that fandom comes art in different forms. We managed to compile a list of how fans have chosen to create tributes to this wonderful world.

1. Mondo Posters

The guys and girls over at mondotees.com were commissioned by HBO to create some artwork for them, back in March 2013. Before you hop on their website, Google or eBay, know this –  their posters are all sold out, so don’t go looking for them, you will find only shattered hopes and dreams;

I should know, I was just on that path. But if you are lucky enough to find a seller you should know that I am going to hate you with a passion. Don’t worry, I’m just kidding. I will only hold a grudge on you. I grudge that I will carry with me till the end of time!

2. Game of Thrones Inspired Playing Cards

The original idea came from Jim Tuckwell, but he didn’t actually do anything besides creating a cool looking playing card, so Paul Nojima, an artist from Hayward, California, United States, managed to one up him and give us this beautiful deck.

A little bit of info on the cards. House Lannister represents Diamonds, House Targeryen represents Clubs, House Baratheon represents Hearts, and House Stark is Spades. The deck goes for about 25$ without the shipping, and you can order one for yourself right here.

I can’t wait to play “War” with my friends. I’ll probably get backstabbed though.

3. Ommegangs take on what Westeros drinks

Ommegang brewery has Fire and Blood Red Ale up for grabs. ” When confronted with the most feared saying in high Valyrian, take a sip and choose your words wisely.”

That’s what we intend to do too. It looks exquisite. The Fire and Blood Red Ale series is made of pilsner, cara-60, midnight wheat, flaked rye and spelt as malt, it also has aromas of ripe fruit, raisins, and slight spices. My mouth is like a waterfall right now.

Besides red ale, you can also have blonde, dark and abbey dubbel ale. If you aren’t near any Ommegang brewery and you crave for a bit of Iron Throne drinking, you can order it to your doorstep; unfortunately they don’t ship outside of Continental US.

4. Giant Dragon Skull

Khaleesi look away! Ow, wait, it’s a fake. You got me there. How did it get on the beach though? Well, for the release of season 3 on Blinkbox, the UK video on demand company created this giant dragon skull on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, England.

It’s about 40 foot tall, and awesome looking. I would spend days there, just reading my favorite fantasy books with my back upon its teeth. My god, doesn’t it look a little bit terrifying? They shouldn’t have announced what they were doing, instead just remain on the down low and see how the entire world goes crazy.

5. Dire wolf Plush Toy

“Cuteness is coming” and Cristina couldn’t be more right. Cristina is an artist from Milan, Italy and she somehow managed to read my mind and make my day a hole lot better. Too bad it’s sold out and she doesn’t seem too keen on creating more of these.

I would’ve cuddled with them all winter long. Yes, I said them, as in I would have bought more than 10. What? Don’t judge me. I’m in love with Game of Thrones and plushies.

6. Women of Game of Thrones

LeAnn Hill’s illustrations depicts the strength of women in Westeros and Essos. Arya, Asha, Brienne, Catelyn, Cersei, Daenerys, Ellaria, Margaery, Melisandre, Sansa, Shae, Yara and Ygrite – hopefully I didn’t miss one; are some of the most important and beautifully created women characters.

They have flaws, they have strengths, they are human beings with goals, with dreams. They are capable of fighting for themselves by any means necessary. My favorite has to be Brienne of Tarth. Her commitment, her loyalty brings tears to my eyes.

She is a faithful knight that will do whatever is possible to accomplish her task.Besides being one of the most skilled sword fighters in all the land, she knows her way with words, and how to be charismatic when it is needed.

This is the end of our tribute list. If you have a graphic, musical or whatever form of tribute to Game of Thrones, we would love to see it. Just post in the comments section bellow and amaze us all.
